Product Description

Measles Immunity

The traditional serologic diagnosis of measles requires a significant rise in antibody titer between acute and convalescent phase sera. However, the diagnosis can also be supported by demonstrating the presence of IgM antibody in a single specimen.

Correct interpretation of serologic data depends upon the proper timing of specimen collection in relation to rash onset. This timing is especially important for interpreting negative IgM results since IgM antibody peaks approximately 10 days after exposure and may be undetectable 30 days after rash onset.

Asymptomatic reinfection can occur in persons who have previously developed antibodies, whether from vaccination or from natural disease. Symptomatic reinfections are rare. These reinfections have been accompanied by rises in measles antibody titers.
